Monitoring groove wear development in cutting tools via stochastic modelling of three-dimensional vibrations
نویسندگان
چکیده
This paper describes an experimental investigation into the patterns of groove wear development and their monitoring at the minor cutting edge of metal-cutting tools. It is shown that these grooves, once formed, adversely affect the dimensional accuracy and surface roughness in finish machining. Multivariate time series stochasticmodels are developed directly from vibration signals, measured with a miniature three-dimensional (3D) accelerometer mounted in close vicinity to the tool tip. Based on the established models, multiple dispersion anafysis is introduced to isolate ingredients sensitive to particular stages of groove wear from the 3D vibrations, and to quantify their relations. The results are physic~Iy interpreted and show that the method presented in this paper is a feasibfe means for on-line monitoring of groove wear development in automated finish machining.

SIMULATION AND MONITORING OF THE MACHINING PROCESS VIA FUZZY LOGIC AND CUTTING FORCES
On time replacement of a cutting tool with a new one is an important task in Flexible Manufacturing Systems (FMS). A fuzzy logic-based approach was used in the present study to predict and simulate the tool wear progress in turning operation. Cutting parameters and cutting forces were considered as the input and the wear rate was regarded as the output data in the fuzzy logic for construct...

As a different approach to the condition monitoring of machining processes by sensor fusion, which has been of great interest over the recent time, this paper presents a novel approach of utilising a single data source to evaluate in-process the overall machining performance in finish turning. The overall machining performance includes the variations of machining performance (chip breakability,...

In this paper, the general governing equations of three-dimensional vibrations of an Euler-Bernoulli Beam under influences of system dynamics are derived by the Hamiltonian method. Then two fundamental cases of a cantilever beam and a rotating beam are considered. The conventional methods for vibration suppression debit to expenses and make new problems such as control spillover because they ar...
متن کاملNeural Network Monitoring Strategy of Cutting Tool Wear of Horizontal High Speed Milling
The wear of cutting tool degrades the quality of the product in the manufacturing processes. The on line monitoring of the cutting tool wear level is very necessary to prevent the deterioration of the quality of machining. Unfortunately there is not a direct manner to measure the cutting tool wear on line. Consequently we must adopt an indirect method where wear will be estimated from the measu...
